Tarbert does not have a swimming pool or a sports centre. The closest swimming pool is in Lochgilphead which is about 25 minutes drive north, or alternatively there is a larger swimming pool and gym facilities in Campbeltown which is one hour away.

The harbour water many years ago used to be much cleaner than it is today, mainly due to the high number of yachts which now stay in the harbour and discharge sewage into the water. There also used to be small sections of beach used by locals in the harbour itself, but now the water is not clean enough to swim in.

If you enjoy swimming in the sea I would recommend driving south to Point Sands Caravan Park where you are presented with one of the best beaches in Kintyre and near to Tarbert, and at the same time the water is shallow and mostly calm offering a wonderful swimming experience with views across to Gigha.
